KRAKOW CLAN

KRAKOW - The City

Krakow is the traditional City of Polish Kings. It was Poland's capital city for centuries before the seat of government was moved to Warsaw about 300 years ago. It is the place of Europe's first great university. Many people view Warsaw as Poland's brawn, but Krakow as Poland's soul.

When Poland was "partitioned" between the European powers of Prussia, Austria-Hungary, and Czarist Russia, Krakow was held by the Austrians as a separate entity from Galicia.

Krakow survived two terrible world wars virtually unscathed.

Bieniasz Residents of Krakow

Based on the numbers, it can be said that generally Bieniaszes were people of the soil not the city. Bieniasz folks can still be found in Poland's second largest city, Karkow, however. Because they did not emigrate to the USA in great numbers, Bieniasz residents of Krakow have been identified from the "Krakow City Directory" printed in 1907. Here are the results including name/address/occupation:

  • Aleksander Bieniasz, Starowislna #81, Assistant electrician

  • Antoni Bienias, Bozego Ciala #24, Postal worker
  • Ignacy Bienias, Krowodrza Murowania #192, Railroad conductor
  • Jozef Bieniasz, Tomasza #33, Commerce
  • Karol Bieniasz, Karmelicka #37, Baker
  • Katarzyna Bieniasz, Tomasza #33, Storekeeper
  • Teresa Bieniasz, Filipa #2, Seamstress
  • Wladyslaw Bieniasz, Starowislna #11, Technician
